Palpitations are symptoms of an irregular, fast, and strong heartbeat that can occur at any time, including when resting or doing daily activities. Although palpitations are not serious or dangerous, in some cases, palpitations can be caused by an irregular heartbeat and require proper diagnosis and treatment.  

Palpitations are more common in women than in men. When symptom occur, may feel that their heart beats fast, irregularly, or skips. People with cardiovascular symptoms who experience symptom may have a heart arrhythmia.

If you experience symptom, try to observe yourself as follows:

  • Do palpitations occur suddenly? What triggers them?
  • How many times per minute does your heart rate beat during symptoms? Is it regular?
  • When symptoms occur, are there other symptoms such as chest pain, ยูฟ่าเบท, shortness of breath, or fainting?
  • How many minutes does the symptom last? How often does it occur?
  • When you recover, do your symptoms gradually improve or disappear immediately? Is there anything or anything you can do that will make your symptoms better?

When can symptom occur ?

  • While exercising. Heavy exercise causes the heart to beat harder and faster to pump blood to the organs of the body, which may cause palpitations . 
  • After eating. Eating spicy foods, drinking too much caffeinated coffee or alcohol can cause irregular heartbeats and a feeling of dizziness. 
  • Heart palpitations when lying down. Sleeping on your side can put the weight of your lungs on your heart , affecting your heart’s function and increasing your risk of palpitations or heart failure. 
  • During pregnancy. For pregnant women, the heart rate and blood volume will be pumped and circulated more. It is normal for pregnant women to have a rapid heart rate. However , you should be careful in your life and avoid overwork. 

How to prevent

  • People who experience palpitations due to stress or anxiety may practice yoga, meditation, tai chi, and biofeedback to control their body and mind.
  • Avoid or limit your consumption of alcohol and caffeine.
  • Quit smoking
  • Exercise regularly
  • Maintain cholesterol and blood pressure levels
